Labs and exercises

Hands-on sessions and exercise sets, usually run alongside a taught course.

Available now

No lab or exercise set has been published on this site yet as standalone material.

The closest thing is the workshop package for the GLACIER hands-on session at the FDL 2026 Summer School: five exercises, a devcontainer that supplies the toolchain, and public downloads. It is written for that session rather than for self-study, but it is openly available.

GLACIER tools are used in teaching at the Department of Engineering for Innovation Medicine of the University of Verona, and material developed for those sessions will be catalogued here as it is released for public use.

Also useful as exercise material is frost-playground, whose examples are small enough to modify and extend, and which ships a devcontainer so a session can start without a local toolchain install.

What a published lab will look like

A lab entry will carry:

  • the topic and the level it assumes;
  • how long a session takes;
  • what participants need installed, or a container that supplies it;
  • a link to the repository holding the exercise material;
  • whether solutions are published, and where.

The physical laboratory

Some of this material relates to the ICE laboratory in Verona, a working production line used for research and teaching. Two GLACIER repositories model it:

  • ice-frost — the production line as Frost components, driven by a recipe-reading scheduler.
  • virtualice-image — the laboratory's data-collection architecture as a Docker Compose deployment.

Both are public and can be run without access to the laboratory itself.

Adding one

Add a section to this page following the pattern above, and link to wherever the material lives.
